Palo Alto Network Solutions and Products
Network Security Software for Next Generation Firewalls
Founded by security visionary Nir Zuk, Palo Alto Networks offers real
innovation in the business firewall by enabling unprecedented network visibility and control of
applications and content – by user, not just IP address – at up to 10Gbps with
no performance degradation. Based on patent-pending App-ID™ technology, our next
generation firewalls accurately identify applications – regardless of port,
protocol, evasive tactic or SSL encryption – and scan content to stop threats
and prevent data leakage. Enterprises can for the first time embrace Web 2.0 and
maintain complete network visibility and control, while significantly reducing total
cost of ownership through device consolidation.
The new PA-4000 and PA-2000 series provides total antivirus and firewall security. Today, more and more businesses rely on Internet based applications for productivity. Unfortunately, traditional business firewalls cannot handle the increased workload, thereby, exposing networks to security risks and increasing business liabilities. It’s time to fix the outdated business firewall that has seen little change for the past 15 years.
Palo Alto Networks has built the next-generation business firewall with several
innovative technologies – enabling organizations to fix the firewall.
These technologies bring business-relevant elements (applications,
users, and content) under policy control on a high performance firewall
architecture.
Palo Alto Networks' next-generation firewalls (NGFW) enable enterprises to see and
control applications, users, and content – not just ports, IP addresses, and
packets – using three unique identification technologies: App-ID, User-ID, and Content-ID.
-
App-ID
is an application identification technology that classifies traffic
based on the application - irrespective of port, protocol, SSL
encryption, or evasive tactics.
-
User-ID
is a technology that integrates with Microsoft Active Directory to
enable the visibility and control of application by users and groups of
users – not just by IP addresses.
-
Content-ID
is a high performance content inspection engine that prevents a wide
range of threats, blocks file transfers, data leakage and controls web
surfing.
All of this technology runs on a high-performance, purpose-built platform based on Palo Alto Networks’ Single-Pass Parallel Processing (SP3) Architecture.
Unique to the SP3 Architecture, traffic is only examined once, using
hardware with dedicated processing resources for network security, networking,
content scanning and management to provide line-rate, low-latency
performance under load.
Reducing Costs With Next Generation Firewalls
"For enterprise IT security organization, the evolution of applications and threats, coupled with the stagnation of traditional network security technology has resulted in a loss of network visibility and control. Despite efforts to regain network visibility and control by adding more security appliances, most organizations remain stymied-unacceptably. In today's economic climate, however, any further increase in cost and complexity is similarly unacceptable. Some leading enterprises, however, have found that investing in innovation and bucking the trend of seemingly never-ending appliance sprawl in network security can result in the restoration of network visibility and control and substantial reduction in cost of ownership of security infrastructure. This paper examines three different organizations, the legacy infrastructure they replaced, the Palo Alto Networks next generation firewalls they deployed and the substantial savings they realized-cutting both capital and operational costs by an average of 50%....."
